Research Interests
My main research interests emphasize the metabolic interactions in the biochemistry, physiology and overall function of plastids in higher plants. Plastids are a distinguishing organelle of plant cells that carry out a variety of physiologically and agriculturally important functions, including photosynthesis, oil and starch biosynthesis, and the assimilation of nitrogen and sulfur. The main objective of my research is to characterize the various metabolic processes of selected plastids, especially how such processes interact and are coordinated. Ultimately, this work will help us to genetically modify the functions of plastids in order to improve agronomically important crops. (more information)
